Staking Ratio
The share of an asset's supply that is currently staked, shown as a percentage.
The numerator is the amount bonded to validators, though definitions differ over whether stake in exit queues, in liquid staking pools, or pending activation counts. The denominator can be circulating or total supply, and that choice alone can move the published figure by several percentage points. The ratio matters for three reasons: many proof-of-stake designs tie the per-unit reward rate to it, so a rising ratio lowers yields; it is a rough measure of the cost of attacking the network; and it indicates how much supply is bonded and therefore not immediately tradable. Because inputs and definitions vary, ratios from two providers are comparable only after checking both.
In practice
A protocol whose reward formula scales inversely with the amount bonded will show falling per-validator yields as its staking ratio rises, without any rule being changed.
The common misunderstanding
A high staking ratio is not automatically a sign of health; it also means a large share of supply is bonded and subject to exit delays, and the figure depends on which supply base is used.
