Market capitalization compared with the yearly value swapped through the network or protocol's decentralized exchanges.
Volume is the top of the funnel that eventually becomes fees. This ratio is useful where fee capture is deliberately low, because activity can be large while revenue is small by design.
Where it misleads
Decentralized-exchange volume is inflated by wash trading, incentive farming and routing that counts one trade on several hops. Treat the level with suspicion and the trend with care.
Reading a high or a low value
Read next to the fee ratios: a wide gap between them is a statement about fee policy, not about activity.
