What the fee-generating assets look like on 25 September 2026

Fourteen digital assets recorded annualized fee streams ranging from roughly $1.6 million to $2.6 billion as of 25 September 2026.

Fee Stream Scale and the Market-Cap-to-Fees Spread

As of 25 September 2026, annualized fees across the fourteen assets in this dataset — each annualized from the trailing 30 days — span from $1,615,599 (Zcash) to $2,554,425,374 (Uniswap V3), a gap of more than 1,500×. The corresponding market-cap-to-fees multiples range from 2.2× (Uniswap) to 20,302.7× (Bitcoin). A wide multiple indicates that the market capitalisation is large relative to the fee volume measured over that period; it does not, by itself, indicate that fees are expected to grow, that the asset is scarce, or that any particular outcome is likely. Equally, a narrow multiple does not imply the opposite. The multiple is a ratio of two quantities at a specific point in time and period, and nothing more.

Fee Retention: Take-Rate Differences

Several assets retain close to all fees generated. TRON and Hyperliquid each record a take rate of 100.0% (annualized from the trailing 30 days), as does Canton and Avalanche. At the other end, Uniswap V3 retains 7.67% of its $2.55 billion annualized fee base as revenue — roughly $195.9 million — with the remainder passing to liquidity providers. Ethereum retains 25.2% of fees as revenue, with the balance burned or distributed. Whether fee pass-through is structurally significant depends on the role of the token relative to that mechanism, which the fee figures alone do not resolve. Bitcoin and Zcash carry no revenue figure in this dataset, reflecting that no protocol-level revenue split is defined under their accounting bases.

Chain-Basis Versus Application-Basis Figures

This dataset mixes chain-level accounting (e.g., chain:Solana, chain:Ethereum) with application-level accounting (e.g., application:Uniswap V3, application:Ondo Yield Assets, application:CCIP). These are not directly comparable. Chain-basis fees aggregate all activity settled on that network; application-basis fees reflect only the activity routed through a specific protocol or product, which may itself run on one or more of the chains already listed. Reading a chain figure and an application figure as equivalent units of analysis risks double-counting, scope confusion, or misattribution of fee flows. Each accounting basis must be interpreted within its own defined perimeter.

Why These Are Not Equity Multiples

The single most consequential reason not to treat market-cap-to-fees as an analogue to a price-to-sales or price-to-earnings multiple is that token holders have no standardised legal claim on fee cash flows. In equity markets, a multiple is grounded in enforceable rights to residual earnings or assets. Here, the relationship between holding a token and receiving any portion of fees is defined — where it exists at all — by protocol rules, smart-contract logic, or governance decisions, none of which are equivalent to a legal ownership interest. The multiple describes a ratio; it does not describe a right.
