What the fee-generating assets look like on 27 September 2026

Fourteen digital assets show market-cap-to-fee multiples ranging from 2.5x to more than 20,000x as of 27 September 2026.

The Spread of Market-Cap-to-Fee Multiples

As of 27 September 2026, the market-cap-to-fees ratios across the fourteen assets in this dataset span an unusually wide range. Uniswap records the lowest ratio at 2.47x (fees annualized from the trailing 30 days; market cap point-in-time), while Bitcoin sits at 20,331.77x and Zcash at 16,890.97x. A wide spread of this kind describes dispersion in the dataset; it does not, by itself, indicate that low-multiple assets are inexpensive or that high-multiple assets are costly. The ratio reflects how much fee activity has been observed relative to market capitalization over a specific measurement window, nothing more. Fee levels can shift materially within weeks, which would move any multiple substantially without any change in market cap.

Fee Retention: Take Rate Variation

Several assets retain close to all fees generated. TRON and Hyperliquid each show a take rate of 100% (annualized from the trailing 30 days), as do Canton and Avalanche. At the other end, Uniswap retains only 7.61% of fees as revenue, passing the remainder to liquidity providers. BNB retains roughly 10.00% and Solana approximately 11.61%. This distinction matters when comparing assets: a high gross fee number paired with a low take rate yields a much smaller revenue figure, and revenue rather than gross fees is the quantity more analogous to what accrues to the protocol itself. Bitcoin and Zcash carry no revenue figure in this dataset, recorded as null, meaning no take-rate calculation is available for them on this accounting basis.

Chain-Basis versus Application-Basis Figures Are Not Comparable

The dataset mixes two distinct accounting bases. Assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and TRON are measured on a chain basis, capturing fees paid across all activity on the underlying network. Chainlink is measured on an application basis (application:CCIP) and Uniswap on application:Uniswap V3. An application captures only the fee flows routed through that specific contract or product; a chain captures everything settling on-chain, including fees from applications that run on top of it. Placing chain-basis and application-basis figures in the same column and ranking them ordinally would conflate two different scopes of measurement. Readers should treat these two subgroups separately when drawing any cross-asset comparison.

Why These Multiples Are Not Equity Multiples

The single most important structural difference between a market-cap-to-fee multiple here and a price-to-sales or price-to-earnings multiple in equity analysis is that token holders do not automatically hold a legal or contractual claim on fee cash flows. In equities, the connection between revenue and shareholder returns is defined by corporate law and the terms of the security. For most tokens, fee revenue may be burned, redistributed under governance-determined rules, directed to validators or stakers, or retained in a treasury — and those rules can change. The multiple therefore describes a ratio between two observed quantities; it does not describe what portion of fees, if any, accrues to a token holder in a manner equivalent to earnings per share. Reading these multiples as equity multiples would import an assumption the data does not support.
