What the fee-generating assets look like on 22 October 2026

A snapshot of annualized fee streams and market-cap-to-fee multiples across fourteen digital assets as of 22 October 2026.

The Spread of Market-Cap-to-Fees Multiples

As of 22 October 2026, the market-cap-to-fees ratio across the fourteen assets in this dataset spans from 3.5x (Uniswap, annualized from the trailing 30 days) to 18,821x (Bitcoin, annualized from the trailing 30 days)—a range of roughly five orders of magnitude. A wide ratio means that, at the current point-in-time market cap, each dollar of annualized fee activity is associated with a large amount of market value. A narrow ratio means the reverse. What the ratio does not imply, by itself, is anything about whether the market cap is proportionate to some intrinsic value: fees are one observable activity metric, not a comprehensive claim on cash flows, and the ratio carries no information about growth trajectory, protocol design, or the degree to which fees accrue to token holders at all.

Fee Retention: Take Rate Divergence

The dataset distinguishes fees from revenue, where available, through a take-rate figure. TRON (annualized from the trailing 30 days) and Hyperliquid (annualized from the trailing 30 days) both report a take rate of 100%, meaning all fees recorded on-chain are classified as protocol revenue. Canton (annualized from the trailing 30 days) similarly retains 100% of its $594.4 million in annualized fees as revenue. At the other end, Uniswap (annualized from the trailing 30 days) retains only 8.1% of its $1.26 billion in annualized fees as revenue ($102.1 million), with the remainder distributed to liquidity providers. Cardano (annualized from the trailing 30 days) retains 20.0% of a comparatively modest fee base. These differences matter because a high gross fee number with a low take rate describes a very different economic structure from one where fees and revenue are coextensive.

Chain-Basis vs. Application-Basis Figures Are Not Comparable

Several entries in this dataset are measured on a chain basis—fees paid to the base-layer network—while others use an application basis. Chainlink is measured on the basis of application:CCIP, capturing fees flowing through one specific product. Uniswap is measured on application:Uniswap V3. These figures reflect activity within a defined application perimeter and are structurally different from, say, chain:Bitcoin or chain:Ethereum, which aggregate all fee-generating activity across the respective base layers. Placing a chain-level figure beside an application-level figure in the same column without adjustment conflates different scopes of economic activity; the numbers are not additive and comparisons across that boundary require explicit methodological qualification.

Why These Are Not Equity Multiples

The most significant reason a market-cap-to-fees ratio cannot be read as a price-to-revenue equity multiple is that token ownership does not, in the general case, constitute a legal or contractual claim on fee revenue. For assets where fees are burned, distributed to stakers, or retained by a foundation, the economic relationship between the token and the fee stream is protocol-specific, often governance-contingent, and subject to change without the consent mechanisms available to equity holders. Bitcoin's revenue_annualized_usd field is null in this dataset, reflecting the absence of a defined revenue split at all. Treating these multiples as equity analogues would require assuming a stable, enforceable claim that the data does not establish.
