Chia
Qué es esto
Chia is a layer-1 smart-contract blockchain founded by Bram Cohen, the creator of the BitTorrent protocol, and is backed by Andreessen Horowitz among others. It aims to provide a more decentralized and energy-efficient alternative to existing blockchains, targeting both individual users and enterprises that want a programmable transaction platform. The project argues that replacing energy-intensive mining with unused storage space lowers the environmental cost and broadens who can participate in securing the network.
Rather than using proof-of-work or proof-of-stake, Chia uses a consensus mechanism called Proofs of Space and Time, which it describes as the first new Nakamoto-style consensus since Bitcoin. Participants, called farmers, dedicate unused hard-drive space to store cryptographic data; those plots are then paired with a verifiable delay function that enforces time passage between blocks, with blocks recorded at an average interval of 0.0 minutes according to stored data. The native token, XCH, is used to pay transaction fees on the network and to interact with smart contracts written in Chialisp, Chia's purpose-built programming language.
The network collected 3.27 USD in fees over the most recent 24-hour period, 39.08 USD over the trailing 7 days, 937.95 USD over the trailing 30 days, and 1,274.74 USD over the trailing 12 months, with those 30-day figures annualizing to approximately 11,411.73 USD. Fee volume grew 109.62 percent over the last 30 days, though the absolute figures remain very small. Protocol revenue for the 24-hour period, trailing 30 days, and trailing 12 months is recorded at 0.0 USD in every case, meaning the protocol retains nothing from fees collected — all fee income goes elsewhere, likely to farmers or validators. Because protocol revenue is zero, any revenue-based ratio on this site would not be meaningful for Chia.
