Diem

Diem is an ERC-20 token on the Base blockchain that represents a fixed unit of access to Venice API compute capacity — specifically, one dollar of API usage per day, in perpetuity. It is designed for developers, applications, and autonomous agents that need stable, predictable access to AI inference without variable subscription or usage bills. The problem it claims to address is the impermanence and cost variability of rented AI compute, converting that compute into a transferable, onchain asset.

DIEM tokens can only be created by locking staked VVV tokens, a process that ties the supply of DIEM directly to committed collateral in the Venice ecosystem. Each token grants its holder the equivalent of one dollar per day of Venice API capacity indefinitely, and because the tokens are standard ERC-20 instruments they can be transferred, traded, or staked on Base like any other compatible token. There is no independent consensus algorithm; DIEM inherits Base's settlement layer for finality.

Fees in the Diem protocol come from usage of the DIEM Relay application. Over the trailing 30 days fees totalled 1,214 dollars, and over the trailing 12 months they totalled 1,882.19 dollars, with fees annualized from the 30-day figure standing at 14,770.33 dollars. The protocol's take rate over that 30-day period was 100 percent, meaning all fees recorded were counted as protocol revenue rather than flowing to liquidity providers or a supply side, and holders received 1,093.75 dollars of that 30-day revenue. Fee growth over the last 30 days was negative 75.81 percent, indicating that the trailing 30-day fee level is substantially lower than the prior period.
