Market Vol 30d Avg USD

30-Day Average Daily Volume

Average dollar value traded per day over the last thirty days.

The thirty-day average is the steadier of the two volume averages and is normally used when comparing the liquidity of one asset with another. Because it spans roughly a month it absorbs single event days that dominate the seven-day figure. It is still an unweighted mean of daily totals across whichever venues the provider includes.

How it is computed

sum of daily trading volume over the trailing 30 days / 30

Where it misleads

The smoothing cuts both ways: after a venue delists an asset or an incentive program ends, this figure keeps reporting the old level for weeks. A rolling thirty days is not a calendar month, so it will never reconcile with monthly exchange or research reports. Windows that happen to contain a quarterly futures expiry or a large unlock carry that event for a month afterward. For assets whose volume is concentrated on one or two venues, the average measures the health of those venues as much as the asset.

The equity comparison, and why it fails

Thirty-day average daily volume in equities; the equity version excludes off-exchange activity that must still be reported, while this figure may include derivative and synthetic venue activity that never touches the asset itself.

Reading a high or a low value

A higher thirty-day average means sustained activity over the month rather than a single busy day. Reading it beside the seven-day average shows whether recent activity is above or below the monthly norm.
