What the fee-generating assets look like on 08 September 2026

Fee multiples and take rates across fourteen digital assets as of 08 September 2026 reveal wide structural differences that resist simple ranking.

Spread of Market Cap to Fees

As of 08 September 2026, the market-cap-to-fees ratio across the fourteen assets in this dataset spans from 2.4x (Uniswap) to 19,513x (Bitcoin), using fees annualized from the trailing 30 days. That range of roughly four orders of magnitude reflects differences in protocol architecture, fee-setting mechanisms, and user activity levels—not a single underlying variable. A wide ratio indicates that market capitalization is large relative to the fee stream the network or application generated over the trailing 30 days; it does not, by itself, indicate whether a fee stream is growing, shrinking, or stable, nor does it carry information about the sustainability of either the numerator or the denominator.

Fee Retention: Take Rate Variation

Where revenue figures are available, take rate—revenue as a percentage of fees—varies from 8.0% (Uniswap, application:Uniswap V3) to 100% (TRON, chain:Tron; Hyperliquid, chain:Hyperliquid L1; Canton, chain:Canton; Avalanche, chain:Avalanche), annualized from the trailing 30 days. Assets at 100% retain all measured fees as protocol revenue. Assets at lower rates pass the majority through to other parties—liquidity providers in Uniswap's case, validators or stakers elsewhere. Chainlink (application:CCIP) sits at 93.8% retention, while Ethereum (chain:Ethereum) retains 23.3%. A high take rate and a low take rate can each be consistent with very different economic structures; the figure alone does not describe who receives the passed-through portion or under what conditions.

Chain-Basis vs. Application-Basis Figures Are Not Comparable

Eight entries in this dataset use a chain: accounting basis; six use an application: basis. Chain-basis fees aggregate all economic activity settled on that network, including fees paid to third-party applications running on top of it. Application-basis fees capture only what flows through a specific protocol, which may itself run across multiple chains. Comparing Uniswap's $1.85 billion annualized fees (application:Uniswap V3) directly against Solana's $271.3 million annualized fees (chain:Solana) would conflate two different scopes of measurement. Readers should interpret each subset independently and avoid cross-basis ratio comparisons as if they measured the same economic construct.

Why These Multiples Are Not Equity Multiples

The single largest reason market-cap-to-fees figures in this dataset cannot be read as equity price-to-earnings or price-to-revenue multiples is that token holders do not hold a standardized residual claim on fee cash flows. Token ownership confers rights that vary asset by asset—governance participation, staking rewards, fee burns, network access, or some combination—and those rights are defined by each protocol's rules, which can change. In equity accounting, the link between revenue and shareholder claim is legally structured and audited. Here, the accounting basis is described as chain: or application: level on-chain data, annualized from the trailing 30 days, with no equivalent of accrual accounting, depreciation, or standardized expense recognition. The ratio therefore describes a relationship between two observed figures; it does not replicate the analytical function an equity multiple serves.
