What the fee-generating assets look like on 14 September 2026

Fourteen digital assets show market-cap-to-fee multiples ranging from under 2x to over 19,000x as of 14 September 2026.

The Spread of Market-Cap-to-Fee Ratios

Across the fourteen assets observed on 14 September 2026, the market-cap-to-fees ratio (fees annualized from the trailing 30 days; market cap point-in-time) spans from 1.85x for Uniswap to 19,190x for Bitcoin. A wide ratio indicates that, at the observed market capitalisation, a large multiple of the current annualized fee run-rate would be required to equal that capitalisation. A narrow ratio indicates the opposite. What these figures do not indicate, on their own, is anything about the sustainability of those fee levels, the trajectory of future activity, or whether any particular multiple is contextually appropriate for the asset's design. Fee volumes can shift materially within days; because the figures are annualized from only the trailing 30 days, a single unusual month propagates through the entire annualized estimate.

Fee Retention: Take Rate as a Structural Variable

Several assets in this dataset retain effectively all fees they generate. TRON, Hyperliquid, Canton, and Avalanche each report a take rate of 100%, meaning annualized revenue equals annualized fees under the accounting basis used. At the other end, Uniswap retains 8.1% of its $2.13 billion annualized fees (trailing 30 days), passing the remainder to liquidity providers. Ethereum retains 23.1% of its $145.3 million annualized fees. Comparing market-cap-to-fees ratios between a full-retention asset and a low-retention asset without adjusting for take rate conflates two structurally different economic arrangements. Market-cap-to-revenue figures—where revenue is available—isolate the portion of fee flow that accrues to the protocol itself, though revenue accounting conventions also vary across assets.

Chain-Basis vs. Application-Basis Figures Are Not Comparable

Assets in this dataset are measured on different accounting bases. Chain-level assets—Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, TRON, and others—are measured on their respective base-layer chains and capture fees paid by all users of that chain regardless of application. Application-level assets—Uniswap (application:Uniswap V3), Chainlink (application:CCIP), Rain (application:Rain), and Bitway (application:Bitway Earn)—capture fees generated by a specific protocol deployed on top of one or more chains. An application's fees are a subset of the host chain's fees; placing them in the same table without this distinction can create the false impression that they represent equivalent or competing economic claims. A reader examining fee ratios across this list must hold this structural difference in view throughout.

Why These Are Not Equity Multiples

The single most important reason market-cap-to-fee ratios for digital assets cannot be read as equity multiples is that token holders generally do not hold a residual legal claim on fee cash flows in the way equity shareholders hold a claim on corporate earnings. Token ownership structures, governance rights, and any economic connection between fees and token value vary considerably by asset and are governed by code and protocol rules rather than standardised securities law. Quoting a ratio of $1.56 trillion market cap to $81.3 million annualized fees for Bitcoin describes a mathematical relationship between two observed figures; it does not describe a yield, a return, or a valuation in the equity-analytic sense.
