Where the market stood on 18 October 2026

Digital-asset market capitalisation stood at $2.70 trillion on 18 October 2026, with Bitcoin accounting for roughly three-fifths of that total.

Concentration at the Top

As of 18 October 2026, total market capitalisation across tracked digital assets reached $2.70 trillion (point-in-time). Bitcoin's share of that figure was 60.16% (point-in-time), meaning the single largest asset accounted for nearly three times the combined weight implied by the next largest, Ether, whose dominance stood at 10.66% (point-in-time). Together, those two assets represented roughly 70.8% of the total, leaving the remaining capitalisation distributed across a much larger tail of assets. Stablecoins outstanding added a further $313.01 billion (point-in-time), a segment that by design does not fluctuate with market sentiment in the same way that non-pegged assets do.

Breadth of the Week's Movement

The 24-hour change in total market capitalisation of –4.12% (point-in-time) signals a broad nominal decline on the observation date. Looking at the trailing 7-day returns among assets with market caps above $1 billion, the spread between the strongest and weakest performers was wide: Bitway led at +37.51% while Pump.fun fell –25.36% over the same period. The five weakest names—Pump.fun, Quant, Canton, Ethena, and MemeCore—each declined more than 17% over the trailing 7 days, whereas the five strongest ranged from +0.52% (TRON) to +37.51% (Bitway). This dispersion indicates that the aggregate decline was not uniformly distributed; a small number of assets moved sharply upward even as a larger cluster moved sharply downward.

Fee Streams Versus Capitalisation Rank

The annualised fee figures, derived from trailing 30-day activity to 18 October 2026, present a ranking that does not mirror the capitalisation hierarchy. Uniswap led all protocols at $1.40 billion annualised, followed by Lido DAO ($632.2 million), Meteora ($600.9 million), Canton ($594.4 million), and Pons ($481.9 million). Aave ($467.9 million), Raydium ($378.4 million), and Solana ($341.3 million) round out the top eight by this measure. Notably, Canton appeared simultaneously among the weakest 7-day performers (–20.80%) and the top four fee-generating protocols. That pairing illustrates what the fee metric does not capture: it measures economic throughput annualised from a 30-day window, not current price performance, investor composition, or sustainability of those fee levels beyond the measurement period.

Total value locked across chains was $88.88 billion (point-in-time), a figure that contextualises on-chain activity but is not directly comparable with annualised fee streams, since different protocol designs convert locked value into fees at very different rates.

What These Figures Cannot Capture

Market-wide aggregates of this kind do not convey information about the distribution of holders, the degree of leverage embedded in open derivatives positions, the proportion of stablecoin supply that is collateral-backed versus algorithmically maintained, or the geographic and regulatory context in which trading is occurring. A single-day capitalisation figure also conflates assets with very different liquidity profiles, so a nominal dollar total can mask substantial variation in how readily component positions could be exited.

A reader seeking to interpret these figures further would need to examine individual asset liquidity depth, on-chain transaction volumes, and the collateralisation structures underlying the $313 billion in stablecoins outstanding.
