Rocket Pool

Rocket Pool is a decentralized liquid staking protocol built on Ethereum that allows people to stake ETH without needing the standard 32 ETH required to run a validator directly. Users who deposit as little as 0.01 ETH receive a token called rETH, which represents their staked position and can be used elsewhere while their ETH continues earning staking rewards. The protocol also allows independent node operators to run validators with just 16 ETH, opening participation to a broader set of people than the Ethereum network's default requirements would otherwise permit.

Rocket Pool matches ETH deposits from liquid stakers with node operators who contribute their own ETH and run the actual Ethereum validators in a non-custodial arrangement. Node operators must hold RPL tokens as a form of collateral, and RPL also functions as a governance and reward token distributed to operators who meet their obligations to the protocol. The system is classified here under Layer 1 infrastructure and operates within the Ethereum ecosystem, with block time recorded as zero, reflecting that Rocket Pool itself does not produce blocks but rather participates in Ethereum's own proof-of-stake consensus.

Fees arise from the ETH staking rewards generated by the validators that node operators run; stakers effectively share a portion of their rewards with operators and the protocol as commission.
