Dash

Dash is a Layer 1 blockchain launched on 19 January 2014 and designed to function as digital cash for everyday payments. It targets anyone who wants to send money quickly and cheaply without relying on a bank or other intermediary. The project positions itself as a decentralized payment network with near-zero fees, instant settlement, and an optional privacy layer.

Dash uses the X11 proof-of-work algorithm for block production, with blocks confirmed roughly every 2 minutes — the 24-hour average block time recorded in the data is approximately 157 seconds. A second network tier made up of masternodes enables features such as InstantSend, which locks transactions almost immediately, ChainLocks, which makes the blockchain resistant to reorganization, and PrivateSend, which mixes coins to obscure transaction trails. The DASH token is the native currency used to pay transaction fees, compensate miners and masternodes, and fund network governance.

Transaction fees are paid by users sending DASH on-chain and are extremely small: the 24-hour average fee per transaction is $0.001276 and the median is $0.000103. Over the trailing 30 days the network collected $404.36 in total fees, and the annualized figure derived from that period is $4,919.71, up 58.33 percent from the prior 30-day window. The data records protocol revenue at $0.00 for both the trailing 24 hours and the trailing 12 months, meaning the protocol itself retains no portion of fees as revenue distinct from miner and masternode compensation. New DASH issuance represents a far larger daily dollar flow than fees — $35,078.65 in the most recent 24-hour period — reflecting an annual inflation rate of approximately 2.57 percent.
