Cosmos Hub is a Layer 1 blockchain designed to solve the problem of isolated, incompatible blockchains by acting as a central routing point for a network of independent blockchains called zones. It is built for developers and projects that want their own sovereign blockchain but also need to transfer tokens and data to other chains without relying on a trusted intermediary. The native token, ATOM, is used to pay transaction fees, participate in the network's security through staking, and vote on governance proposals.
Cosmos Hub uses Byzantine fault-tolerant consensus, coordinated through the Tendermint protocol, in which a set of validators stake ATOM to propose and confirm blocks, with the record showing a block time of effectively zero minutes in the stored data, indicating near-instant finality.
