Cosmos Hub

Cosmos Hub is a Layer 1 blockchain designed to solve the problem of isolated, incompatible blockchains by acting as a central routing point for a network of independent blockchains called zones. It is built for developers and projects that want their own sovereign blockchain but also need to transfer tokens and data to other chains without relying on a trusted intermediary. The native token, ATOM, is used to pay transaction fees, participate in the network's security through staking, and vote on governance proposals.

Cosmos Hub uses Byzantine fault-tolerant consensus, coordinated through the Tendermint protocol, in which a set of validators stake ATOM to propose and confirm blocks, with the record showing a block time of effectively zero minutes in the stored data, indicating near-instant finality. Separate blockchains connect to the Hub as zones and pass tokens between one another using the Inter-Blockchain Communication protocol, with the Hub maintaining the shared ledger that tracks those transfers. ATOM holders can delegate their tokens to validators, which both secures the network and entitles delegators to a share of staking rewards, while circulating supply stands at approximately 527 million tokens against no defined maximum supply.

The protocol collects fees paid by users submitting transactions, denominated in ATOM and distributed to validators and their delegators in-protocol. Over the trailing 30 days, the chain generated 1,486.71 USD in fees, which annualizes to approximately 18,088.30 USD; over the trailing 12 months the figure was 48,650.95 USD, and fees over the most recent 24-hour period were 47.80 USD. Revenue to the protocol itself — meaning fees retained rather than distributed to validators and stakers — was 0.00 USD across the 24-hour, 30-day, and 12-month periods, meaning the protocol passes all collected fees to network participants and retains nothing at the protocol treasury level. The ratio of market capitalization to annualized fees stands at 43,840.85, reflecting how small the fee base is relative to the asset's current market capitalization of approximately 793 million USD.
